“When I encounter White folk, a majority of the time they automatically perceive me as White and nothing else. Sometimes I have a little fun with it and play the game a little bit.  And when I say ‘the game,’ I mean basically just not letting people know exactly what I am until a little ways into the conversation.  Some Whites talk a certain way whenever the conversation circles around Black folk, and then I have to catch them quick and put them in check, like ‘Oh yeah, by the way, I’m one of them.’  Their reactions are priceless.”
