“When I went to Ghana, they thought I was from Lebanon. Or just White. Little kids running around yelling, “Oburoni! Oburoni!” I got a whole lot of that, which was actually unique for me because other than somebody thinking I’m Italian every once and a while, it’s very very rare that people think I’m White. People think I’m a lot of things, but just straight White usually isn’t the case. It was an interesting experience to be called White without even interacting with people; and it was definitely a little challenging because it’s almost like somebody telling you you’re not who you are.”
