“Most of the time people are afraid to call you ‘Black’ in Brasil. They don’t wanna show how racist they are so they try lighten up the weight of the words -  they say ‘mulatto,’ ‘crioulo,’ ‘neguinho ‘moreno.’ The different words hide the meaning, but if you look, the real intention is there. When I say, ‘I’m Black,’ they’ll say ‘No, you’re not that Black. Pele’s Black. You’re not Black. You’re light skinned. You have green eyes. You’re moreno.’ They call me ‘moreno’ because they think if they call me ‘Black,’ I’ll be offended. But that’s what I am.”
