“I’ve been ‘invited’ to join the ‘Multiracial movement,’ but I find that there is a political agenda attached to that term that is supremacist and divisive. I love humanity—all of humanity, and I’m not interested in a catchall category of  ‘Colored-but-not-Black’ like apartheid South Africa created nearly a century ago. I’m not eager to erase my Black or White ancestry to create a catchall. Today when I’m asked about my  ‘race’ I say, “My father was a Black American man who descended from stolen Africans, my mother is an American of Irish and English ancestry.” I let people do what they will internally with that, which is what they are going to do regardless of the terminology I give them.”
